If your website is a source of income for you then you should definitely go for paid hosting. With paid hosting you get reliability, good support, guaranteed uptime and other features. While in case of free hosting, the hosting company can close at anytime without notice and you cannot get all these services and features since you are not paying for their service.

Paid hosting, as is usually more reliable than free hosting...

I also suggest you paid hosting because the support ,reliabilty and uptime are the important factor which you get under paid hosting. There are many other feature too which you are not able to get under free hosting(because of costly software) but get under paid one easily.

The free hosts, need to find a form of revenue, so they usually put ads on your website if you host with them...

Yeah, the free hosts put up an advertisement either in the form of text link, banner or pop ups on the websites. Many users find these ads take away from the design of their sites and also these ads sometimes are very annoying to the visitors.

Having ads, you don't have control over, makes your website looks unprofessional. Most free hosts allow you to upgrade to paid hosting, which doesn't force any ads on your web pages.

Any how, you have to go for paid hosting if you want to join the market professionally, at your own conditions. ;)

For the websites that have long-term targets paid hosting is the best option.

If you will be running a serious website or a business website, choice should be paid hosting of course. But if you are only looking for a place that you can practice web design etc., you may choose free hosting as well.

It mostly depends on your intentions and budget of course.

Free hosting can help people test their web sites until they decide to turn their websites into serious businesses, or until they need serious hosting service.

Very good point, free hosting can be very helpful for website testing purposes. Also if you have created your personal site just for fun, free webhosting will be a good option but if it's a source of income for you then you should go for paid hosting.

Paid! It definately worth it. You get more flexibility, your not limited just html or php only in safe mode, etc. Plus you get support and with the good paid host they often have live chat or toll free phone support.

Well, paid hosting absolutely. Why ? If you go with free, then you might need to exchange a link or a banner, or there are hosting companies that use mod_layout in their apache, and so you will have forced ads put on your website.I hate that.Paid is best.My opinion.

Adrian

Free web hosting:)
There are many differences between Paid and Free hosting environments. A lot of your free hosting environments include ads, banners, pop-ups and other advertisement methods your unable to control. Your also very limited by what features you've available to you. Free hosting environments can at times be beneficial to those only wanting a very simple website, no frills, more or less a personal one-page website.
Paid web hosting:)
While on the other hand, a Paid hosting environment can offer you a variety of services, limited on by that the provider has chosen to limit. In some cases, like Foxyhare Service, we provide our clients with all the necessary features needed in building and maintaining a very professional atmosphere and website. While a little more complicated than those that are free, you'll all around receive a more professional experience and control of your environment.Personally i own large website. So only i chose paid web hosting from TheWebPole.com (http://www.thewebpole.com/hosting/web-hosting.aspx?ci=1783&prog_id=456994)

Hello,
This is simply depends on your needs if your are not serious about your website and just making an website and upload it on server, then free web hosting is good for you but if you are serious about your website and want to make some money from your website and you want better service and reliable hosting then I will prefer paid web hosting for you.

Know your hosting needs.
Investigate on host reliability and uptime guarantees.
Study web host upgrading options.
Check all hosting features (such as number of addon domains allowed) based on your needs.
Check prices on both sign up and renewal.
Check hosting control panel.
Read hosting company’s ToS to find out more about account suspension and server usage policy.
Other supporting features (ie. site backup, environmental friendliness, etc)

Free in my opinion means that resources are shared so slow connection will be inevitable. But when you go paid, you get a dedicated server plus support. You might want to check if you can try out paid for a month and see how it works for you.
