Anti-Virus
Firstly when you say the word Anti-virus, it is basically a software designed to protect your computer against known viruses, but with one or the other new virus emerging on a daily basis, anti-virus programs need regular updates.
Use firewalls
Firewalls create a protective wall between your computer and the outside world, and come in primarily two forms; software firewalls that run on your personal computer and hardware firewalls that protect a number of computers at the same time.
Avoid sharing your Computer
It’s best not to share access to your computers with lesser known persons or strangers. Try to learn about file sharing risks as there are too many complications.
Why call for extra trouble when you are not using internet?
Logically speaking it’s quite simple… but just try asking yourself whether you really do it? In fact many a times, even I don’t disconnect my computer from the Internet when not in use.

The first line of defense in keeping your computer as secure as possible is through regular software updates and routine system maintenance to help avoid data loss, new viruses, and other potential risks. The top two software applications you need to keep updated are your operating system (ex. Microsoft Windows) and your anti-virus solution.
For Microsoft Windows, we recommend that you run Windows Update or the new Microsoft Update. If you are using Windows XP, Windows 2000 SP3 or higher, or Windows Server 2003, we recommend that you activate Automatic Updates. The Automatic Updates feature in Windows notifies you when critical updates are available for your computer. Automatic Updates also allows you to specify the schedule that Windows follows to install updates on your computer.
For the new Microsoft Update, please visit http:!!update. microsoft. com/Microsoftupd ate
To turn on Automatic Updates, on Windows XP go START -> Control Panel -> Automatic Updates

never trust on any external device like Memory Card, Hard Drive or any other USB. It may contain spyware or worm that can put your system in danger. As you know your system is very important for you, because it has lots of your important data saved in it. If you dpn'r scan the external device and plug in to your system, then the possibility is that you system can get infected. You can lose your important data in a few minutes.and your hard disc can also corrupted, So always scan external devices using a good anti virus.
