Old domains are great to own even if they don't have back links, old domains with keywords in them will rank faster then a new domain name will. Great old domains are now starting to become available the domain "Directoryscript.com" just sold today for $200. Emachine.com and DomainWorks.com just recently expired too.

You could have 100 times the amount of backlinks but if they are coming from forum posts, blog comments etc then they are pretty much worthless.
