I have no credit card and no bank card with a VISA or MasterCard logo on it, but I was today on maybe 30-50 hosting websites, pretty good ones and signed up untill I saw again that you need a credit card (though I have a PayPal account). Is there really no webspace I just can pay through PayPal? It is really annoying and I'm really frustrated right now since I worked on my website design since some monthes and is almost ready to get uploaded.

PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME! DUNNO WHAT TO DO!

I think you will find most hosts allow payment by paypal nowdays.
It is abit odd if you didnt see anything saying they accept paypal but I would suggest you send them an email and ask.

always when I sign up for it and want to pay then I logg in paypal what is the first step and then comes the shit asking for card on the paypal site, so it's Card via Paypal but not Paypal alone...

btw. is it important for me if the platform is Unix or Windows?

WEll the control panels are different, i recommend using getting a Unix platform.

about the credit card thing, you can get a debit card from any bank and charge it with the money you want to spend, using credit cards is alot easier...

Many hosts also accept PayPal direct or via the sign up forms. We at www.1PlanHost.com have offered PayPal as an option for several years and have integrated it into our sign up scripts. If you do not have any specific need for Unix/Linux hosting (CGI/Perl scripts that may be only written for Unix/Linux) then I would recomend Windows server hosting. The new Windows 2003 server is very reliable and if you use Microsoft products (FrontPage, Access or MS SQL database) then it would be the choice for you. Windows servers also allow you to use ASP, ASP.NET, PHP and MySQL database if desired.

I think T-Craq does not have credit card nor paypal, if you looking to pay around $100/year then you will find many hosts that accept western-union ..

From his post he does indeed have a PayPal account. The issue is that some host do not use the PayPal API and that brings the user to a PayPal page where it looks as if the only way to pay is via credit card. Of course there is an already a member link there as well were the user can sign into their PayPal account and proceed.

I have excellent experience with PayPal so far, but I have heard lots of horror stories about it and would never offer it as a payment options for my customers.

Customers without credit cards, can always send cheque...

PayPal is an Ebay company and is highly respected with it's millions of users. To ignore the payment preference of millions is in my opinion not a wise business practice. I would not recomend making it the only payment option of course but certainly would not exclude it.

We have had a very positive experience with PayPal over the past 4 years and have not experienced any problems with thousands of transactions. I realize that there are a few people in isolated circumstances (frozen accounts) that have had problems with PayPal but most of those seem to be solved now.

Customers without credit cards, can always send cheque... I accept credit cards, checks, and PayPal. I have never had any problems with PayPal. It is a pretty respectable company and a good alternative for those customers who don't have a credit card. I have also heard stories of how hard it is to deal with them if a customer attempts a charge back. But overall, I find them a good company to work with - and great for those just starting out.

Regardless if it's PayPal or a standard merchant account, merchants can always count on loosing most of the chargeback battles. Usually there is no disputing it unless you have a signature slip on hand for proof. Of course with Internet transactions, there is no slip so there is no dispute. We have had only 2 chargebacks reversed in the past 8 years and those were because it was clear that the person who owned the card did order service and they violated our TOS by uploading porn. I sent the merchant provider several pics from the disputed site and they cancelled the chargeback real quick!

If you have a Paypal account - how do you fund it? If it is by bank transfer, then you can also use online checking for payment for web hosting and a wide variety of other purchases on the web.

I personally accept payment for services by Paypal, No-Chex, Credit and Debit Card, online checks, Western Union, bank transfer, Moneygram, travellers checks and cash.

A PayPal account is generally funded by bank transfer or receiving money from another PayPal user. To be verified at PayPal an account holder will need a checking account or credit card.

Hello T-craq

Some companies accept other payment methods if you not have credit or debit card nor paypal.
For example we have a partner company in www.host4six.com where you can pay thru Western Union. Host4six have servers on EV1, NAC, VERIO and EDELTACOM dataservers.

We take credit cards, checks, and anything resembling cash, such as cashiers checks or money orders. Could do paypal too, but it would be manual and we haven't done that yet -- no-one asked :)

I would imagine that most of the established companies will take all payment methods. I know we accept almost every payment method. About the only one that I don't like is cash. Makes the accounting harder and adds difficultly if lost in the mail. But I still have 2 customers who will only pay by cash. Both are young and don't have other methods.

How do most of you manage an account that pays by check. Do you require the check in hand before activating the account?

...except for actual cash, as someone else said, it's too hard to account for, plus it can get "lost".

If it's a referral from someone we know well, we'll set up an account before payment, but if someone unknown calls we want payment first, especially on domain names.

Why not just accept Western Union payments yourself direct? It is very simple to do.

One word of caution however about Western Union. Most of the bank fraud and phishing scam sites that we have shut down in the past year paid with Western Union. Perhaps because it is easy for them to get by with it. Unfortunately, they usually have time to run their scams prior to being caught a month or so later. Fortunate for us that their WU payment is considered as cash and non refundable but very unfortunate for the victims of their scams. We have a very strong policy against those types of sites.

I guess all hosts accept PayPal now, some allow verified payments only, other - both verified and unverified.
Don't think you'll have any problems getting hosting and paying for it via Paypal. You may use Paypal community forum to resolve issues if you have any.
