I am at a really big stop in my web hosting business right now. I dont have a lot of money and have a lot of work that needs to be done. I need a website, logo, and at least one staff member for my support/tech team. Anyone have any ideas to help?

For the logo and website design you could throw a contest at a design forum (like sitepoint, although there have been quite a few successful contests at digitalpoint forums) but it will set you back at least $100-150. For promotion you can offer a good refferal program ("refer a friend and pay half for a full year!") and maybe some PPC (buy some adwords coupons or go with msn for penny clicks). And for staff I would suggest waiting until you have about 100 customers before hiring someone for your support team.

If you're really short on funds, then try:

1. Obtaining a web template for your web site
2. Purchase a logo template
3. Hire a college student to do support. Make him/her an intern.

Hosting is very hard to sell, there is so much competition. I recently about 3 months ago got a direct admin server and I loved how it doesnt own your server and you can keep all software and cp scripts updated to the latest versions. Plus you can use apache2. The client side has almost everything cpanel does as well. To make a long story short that has been almost impossible to sell. SO we got a cpanel server and are gonna see how that goes. Word of mouth helps but you gotta get out on these forums too and spread the word

Here are a few things that I have followed to help make my hosting business become successful.

1. I'd say plan everything out carfully, and make good decisions based on your needs, don't over spend in areas that are not crucial to the growth your business and don't waste time or money on things that will not help your business become productive.

2. Make sure you keep track of every visitor that comes to your site, find out where they came from and how they found your site, statistics are a very crutial part of any business. I would suggest either Awstats- http://awstats.sourceforge.net, Urchin - http://www.urchinstats.ca, Google Analytics - http://www.google.com/analytics/, Activemeter - http://www.activemeter.com, or Site Meter - http://www.sitemeter.com, for statistic tracking.

3. Make sure your services are what they are cracked up to be. There is nothing worst then saying you offer something that you dont really offer just to get a new customer. Because once they find out that you dont offer a certain service they will spread the word about thier bad experience.

4. Always be honest and loyal with everyone of your customers, it only takes one customer to take your business from good to bad overnight. My rule of thumb is as follows.... Take care of your customers and they will take care of you! The word travels fast when a customer has a bad experience.

5. As for website design and layout, you can get some free templates that are nice and of a business nature here http://www.templatebox.com, if you want to spend $40 - $60 for a really nice customized template you can find one here http://www.templatemonster.com

6. As for a logo and banner ads you can go here http://www.20dollarbanners.com and get a logo and some banner ads for real cheap. They make real nice banner ads that really stick out and help the promotion fo your business.

7. Search engine optimazation, SEO is another crutial part of any web business, make sure you have all your meta tags and keywords set up and optimized. You will be amazed at the amount of good quality targeted traffic you get by utilizing good SEO.

As for design, I would suggest not chasing after the biggest companies. There are a lot of new, fresh designers out there that will work for dirt cheap because they are not yet reputable and need the experience.

If you want to host your site you must thinks of quality and reputed companythat gives you full satisfaction being a customer support level must be efficient 24x7.
