Here is the real scoop on the Gbrowser. The Google browser rumor appears to be only that, a RUMOR with no factual basis other than stiring up interest in Google more. I would not advise scurrying around looking for a Gbrowser beta invite since it is not from all appearences in the works at all.

On Oct 6th there was an article on this at silicon.com by Stefanie Olsen from CNET News.com which Google board member and investor John Doerr said that despite speculation, the search giant would not enter the web browser market, but he predicted others would.

It appears that the rumor intensified when the New York Post article speculated about it in September and then the BBC picked up on it on 9/23 See http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/3680942.stm In April Google registered the gbrowser.com domain which really started this rumor.

With John Doerr being a Google Board member, my speculation would be that he would be in the know if something like this would be coming down the pike.

Best Wishes for a .Net Success!

Who knows why why G registered three domain gbrowser.com .org and .net. There is lots of speculation on that but I do know that as far as my research has taken me there is no such thing in the works right now. I saw on some other boards where a couple of pranksters claimed to have a beta version but when confronted they could not produce any screenshots or reliable information.

I was interested in this news about a release of a G-Browser myself, after all the posts being made around the internet not one has yet surfaced with actual information about any G-Browser in development.

I do happen to like Google's new desktop search system though, beta release of course, but worked well until my computer died on me, not due to Google’s beta desktop search application.

If you are interested in trying the beta release of Google's Desktop Search, here is the URL: http://desktop.google.com/

This is not your typical browser and really should not be referenced as such. It is a desktop search tool where you can search files and emails on your local computer. However, there is a tradeoff in that you do have to see the Google Adwords so it is really not freeware but an adware application.

Yup, I am aware it is a desktop search too, I just simply thought those who where so interested in Google’s browser may also find this nice little desktop search tool interesting.

:P i would find it hard to surf using that alone.

Well, hope the application helps you with your internal computer searches, seems to work quite well.
