Except for the link dropped at the end of the first post, there is no reason for threads of this kind. Google is your friend, but then how will you spam? Fair enough.

VPS Hosting is a kind of bridge between dedicated hosting and shared hosting. VPS stands for Virtual Private Server. The Virtual Private Server or Virtual Dedicated Server (VDS) hosting is one of the forms of web hosting that has recently gained popularity. The VPS hosting is a hybrid of shared hosting and dedicated hosting.

A virtual private server (VPS) is a virtual machine provided by an Internet hosting service. A VPS, although running in software on the same physical computer as other customers' virtual machines, is in many respects functionally equivalent to a separate physical computer, is dedicated to the individual customer's needs, has the privacy of a separate physical computer, and can be configured to run server software.

The concept behind server virtualization is a specific example of the same concepts that led to the development of time-sharing and multiprogramming. Generally, client users tend to ask for computer resources in a "bursty" fashion, demanding fast-as-possible response to requests, but then entering long periods of no activity while they examine the results. During these idle periods, the computer's resources can be used to service requests from other clients. This model makes more efficient use of the computer's resources, reducing the time the system is idle, regardless of user patterns. It also allows the users to share resources, save files on a hard drive or take turns using a printer.

Virtualization extends this basic concept to the computer as a whole. In the traditional model, the operating system shares access to the resources, but there is still a single machine being shared. In the virtual server model, the virtualization software instead provides the illusion of more than one computer, hard drive, printer, etc. Although the resources are still shared, as under the time-sharing model, virtualization provides a higher level of security as the individual virtual servers are isolated from each other. Each virtual server can run its own full-fledged operating system and can be independently rebooted. This is valuable as it allowed businesses to run their legacy applications on older versions of an operating system on the same server as newer applications.

Partitioning a single server so that it appears as multiple servers has long been common practice on mainframe computers and mid-range computers such as the IBM AS/400. It has become more prevalent with the development of virtualization software and technologies for microcomputers.

The physical server typically runs a hypervisor which is tasked with creating, releasing, and managing the resources of "guest" operating systems, or virtual machines. These guest operating systems are allocated a share of resources of the physical server, typically in a manner in which the guest is not aware of any other physical resources save for those allocated to it by the hypervisor.

The guest system may be fully virtualized, paravirtualized, or a hybrid of the two.

Virtual Private Server offers a good balance between total control (root access privilege) and a tight budget. Having a VPS account is just like operating a dedicated server.

Benefit of VPS:
Control panel interface gives you root access – As opposed to shared hosting, you will have access to making all sorts of adjustments to the system software with VPS hosting. Full control is something that was reserved only for dedicated hosting, but can now come with VPS hosting as well.

VPS hosting as a cost-efficient solution – When compared to dedicated hosting, VPS hosting comes at a much more affordable price, but offers many benefits of dedicated hosting. Therefore, if you would not like to choose shared hosting, and cannot afford dedicated hosting, then VPS hosting will definitely be the perfect solution.

Traffic patterns can be easily recognized and catered for by VPS hosting – Many people have the problem of their websites not being able to go through heavy traffic with shared hosting. With VPS hosting, the server will automatically free all available resources for your traffic peak times, thus managing heavy traffic without any hiccups.

VPS hosting allows your website to grow bigger – If you have a website that is likely to grow bigger as time passes by, you will definitely have a problem with shared hosting as you are sharing the resources with others. VPS, on the other hand, will prove to be far more flexible in this arena.

Hosting several websites – With VPS hosting, you will be able to host more than one website, and this is not available with shared hosting – at least not if you want all of these domains to run smoothly. So, VPS hosting will allow all of these separate websites to be hosted with no performance issues whatsoever.

VPS (Virtual Private Server) Hosting is also a great fit for businesses expecting rapid growth, heavy website traffic, and who run highly interactive, dynamic websites on the Internet. In Motion partitions very high-performance server into different virtual servers, and also each with a reserved amount of CPU and RAM resources.

A VPS also known as a Virtual Private server is similar to a dedicated server as it has specifically allocated resources and the server is not shared by any other users like in shared hosting.

A VPS has various benefits:
It is like your own private server so you can manage it the way you want. You can upload the software of your choice.

It is also more secure compared to a shared server.

Since it is used for only your site there are less chances of resource exhaustion by other sites.

It is good way to upgrade from a shared server when one cannot afford a dedicated server.

Vps stands for «Virtual Private Server ". This refers to a virtual server machine, meaning that instead of having an actual physical server, you use a server that is available online. Though it works on the same physical computer as the VPS services of other users, it is created to mimic the functionality of a private computer. This is because the system can be modified to fit the individual users' needs for their sites. Though users will not likely be aware of the difference between a Server host and a Xeon dedicated server, other than not having a physical machine at their disposal, these systems save energy, materials and other costs.

A VPS or VDS hosting solution offers a number of direct, immediate benefits over shared web hosting or dedicated hosting. First, both allow a variety of customization options to clients, such as the ability to choose the OS they would like to run. In addition, privacy is always assured on these kinds of systems; since other servers cannot even “see” the VMs around them, much less access their data. Add to that a larger measure of control over the way the server operates – most of the functions of a VM are in the hands of the user, not the server host – and the benefits are apparent.

VPS is nothing but the abstraction of “Virtual Private Server”. From the name itself, it is clear that VPS is not private server but virtually it acts like a private server. We can install any software or OS without affecting other virtual machines on the same server. With this technology of partitioning a single server, customer can enjoy the benefits which are similar to dedicated hosting.I have availed the Virtual Dedicated Server Hosting from 9cubehosting.com and have no regrets. My website's performance is detached from the other sites hosted on the same server.Hence my website is always up with their multiple servers around the world.

VPS hosting is a Virtual Private Server, and is a virtualized server. A VPS hosting environment mimics a dedicated server within a shared hosting environment. It is technically both shared hosting and dedicated hosting. Virtual Private Server hosting plans offer virtual machines to clients. The concept of virtualization is similar to shared hosting where one server computer can have multiple sites running on it. However, virtualization technology allows each account to be treated as its own machine with its own dedicated resources and operating system. Also the cost of a VPS is lower but the performance is equivalent to a dedicated server.

Benefits of VPS :

• A VPS hosting account is less expensive than a full dedicated hosting plan that uses a physical server.
• Many VPS plans can be customized to meet your needs so you pay for what you want but you do not need to deal with any features you will never need.
• Many VPS hosting plans are easily scalable. You can start off in your virtual environment with the minimum amount of resources you need and then as you grow gradually increase your hosting plan to accommodate your needs. You do not have to pay for excessive resources you have not yet grown into.
• You have a lot more control over your virtual server than you do with shared hosting. You will likely have root access and the ability to use scripts that may not be allowed in the shared hosting environment.
• You have the same technical support as with shared hosting for most issues.
• You can choose from semi managed hosting where the web host handles some maintenance and fully managed services.

Virtual Private Servers (VPS) has become a very popular type of web hosting services worldwide. Developing VPS's basically involves splitting the resources of a completely effective server into different elements and making the single elements behave as though they have been unbiased servers. With this technique, each part, i.e VPS, may have its own software and operating system. All sorts of modifications can be performed to VPS without affecting any other VPS that connects the equal physical server. A VPS offers a big overall performance improvement over shared website hosting but continues to be cheap as compared to a dedicated server.
