Why not to give Kvchosting.com a try? Their ssd vps hosting (http://www.kvcwebhost.com/ssdvpshost/vps-web-hosting.html) solutions look really great, pricing and features are unique.
Their plans are quite cheap when you figure what you're getting for them. As for their servers, they are really fast. I like this web host and highly recommend it to you, OP.

To better understand VPS hosting, you must first understand what both dedicated server hosting and VPS are. A dedicated server offers privacy, security, and dedicated resources.

I have to say that there are a lot of factors which you need to take into account while preparing for the search. First of all you need to know configuration of your VPS and visualization. Also budget is very important.
Just in case you are looking for inexpensive and reliable (I mean with DDos protection Raid etc) VPS go there: https://needassistant.com/
Good and affordable VPS service will be found.

If you've outgrown shared hosting, but don't need a dedicated server yet, VPS hosting is the way to go - and BlueHost is the company to get it from. Very few companies offer a VPS service that's this fast, scalable and affordable.

I have to say that you can name service as the best only for you, not for everyone.
For this matter I can point to https://needassistant.com/ - they have some nice OpenVZ VPS deals.

Vpsnine.com and hostsailor.com are respectable hosts whose servers are solid and well-supported.
Their pricing is affordable and support is active for 24 hours.

Thanks for sharing.
I didn't have experience with Vpsnine.com and hostsailor.com.
Personally i hosted my own site with a help of 9CubeHosting.com (http://www.9cubehosting.com/linux-vps-hosting-packages/)
I like their server speed and they offer free of cost gifts like Online Control Panel, which is available in as many as 10 languages, an absolutely free dedicated IP with lots of cost–free add–ons.

Ah, finally a thread from this year. With any hosting you get what you pay for. If they offer a trial you can run some speed tests, There are some info to do that at lowendtalk.com. Also take note of the type of VPS they offer. Make sure they arent overloaded and make sure it supports what you need to run. For example openvz and xen paravirt is limited on what it can run as you cannot change the kernel and a lot of the system you are sharing is off limits.

The best virtualization will be anything full virt like vmware, Xen HVM-ISO and KVM

Wow, an old thread.

I hope someone responds...

How can you tell if it's overloaded?

There's supposed to be less people on a VPN than on a reseller account, right?

Thanks

You should choose hosting provider with normal prices and very responsive support. If they have live chat this will be very good!

So I did sign up with a VPS a month ago & it's been stressful ever since.

When they said managed, they didn't REALLY mean managed. I've been having to get involved with notices from CPanel several times a day that is interfering with my work & stressing me out.

My sites have also been down over 19 hours in just the one month.

While I've learned a bit now about VPSs, I'm not happy about this.

I'm giving it another month to see how it goes before deciding whether to stay with them. <sigh>

Oh & they say 24/7 tech support, but the only fast responses (and that's only if they don't have a huge issue they are dealing with) is during the day. At night time, I'm lucky if I ever get a response to my tickets or if they answer live chat or even answer the phone <sigh>.
