A virtual private server (VPS) is a virtual machine sold as a service by an Internet hosting service.

A VPS runs its own copy of an operating system, and customers have superuser-level access to that operating system instance, so they can install almost any software that runs on that OS. For many purposes they are functionally equivalent to a dedicated physical server, and being software-defined, are able to be much more easily created and configured. They are priced much lower than an equivalent physical server, but as they share the underlying physical hardware with other VPSs, performance may be lower, and may depend on the workload of other instances on the same hardware node.

The virtual private server is the happy medium between the two alternatives. The server is partitioned and your company is afforded an entire one of the partitions. However, since the server is partitioned, other users on the server do not affect you in the same way as they might on a shared server.

For those who need professional ssd vps hosting services, I can put forward a recommendation to choose SolVPS.com (http://www.SolVPS.com/) - pricing is cool.
Last and most important, when you want help, you want it now, not tomorrow. Their customer support is genuinely 24/7!
Great service, their support is always prompt and helpful. Use coupon BESTVPSOFFER for 25% off for life.

VPS hosting is a Virtual Private Server, and is a virtualized server. A VPS hosting environment mimics a dedicated server within a shared hosting environment. It is technically both shared hosting and dedicated hosting.

VPS Hosting is one of several types of web hosting accounts you can choose from to host your website online. To have a website on the internet, you need to have your website files on a web server.

I must add that you need to understand a possible performance issues with VPS.
Within normal use it can operate good but you can face issues when start utilizing CPU or disk resources heavily.

It happens because the physical host usually consist more VPS than it can handle. So if every VPS will use it's CPU for 100% overall performance will drop dramatically.

Good . Does anyone recommend doing a VPS for speed? I know he said the specs for the VPS' but I'm not sure how much it can handle. Compared to say bluehost or hostgator hosting?

A virtual private server (VPS), also called a virtual dedicated server (VDS), is a virtual server that appears to the user as a dedicated server but is actually installed on a computer serving multiple Web sites. A single computer can have several VPSs, each one with its own operating system (OS) that runs the hosting software for a particular user.
The hosting software for each VPS can include a Web server program, a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) program, a mail server program and specialized applications for activities such as e-commerce and blogging.

The VPS alternative is often chosen by small businesses that need a customized Web site but cannot afford a dedicated server. Another useful aspect of VPS technology is the ability of a single subscriber to maintain multiple virtual servers. For example a Web site owner might use one server for the production-level Web site and the other for a "dummy site" that can be used to test planned updates, modifications or new programs.

Hosting provider splits a dedicated server into small servers using software to provide low-cost service with dedicated server features. You can have your choice of Operating system and own IP with feature same as the dedicated server. You can have cPanel and other software. You will get a specific resource allocated to you.

The virtual private server is a hosting service that provides you with a part of an actual dedicated server resources. One physical server can host several virtual dedicated servers, the resources being limited clearly with the framework of a chosen configuration. From a technical viewpoint, the virtual server may have up to 8 Intel Xeon processor cores, 2.4 GHz each, 32 GB RAM and 500 GB disk space.

This service is advisable for any kind businesses, web projects and operation of different server software (e.g. mail and database servers, financial software).

The maximum server setup allows for operation of a few large-scale websites or online shops (with more than 50 000 daily users), a CRM system, a resource-intensive mail server with large traffic, any financial or accounting software, business engineering and development frameworks.

Many companies offer virtual private server hosting or virtual dedicated server hosting as an extension for web hosting services. There are several challenges to consider when licensing proprietary software in multi-tenant virtual environments

VPS, which is the abbreviation of Virtual Private Server, gives you more freedom than shared hosting. Although you are still sharing the server with others, you have fewer neighbors and get a dedicated portion of resources which are not accessible to anyone else. At the same time, you are responsible for the security and performance of your own virtual server.

When you need a VPS?

If your business generates considerable traffic, you might want to use a VPS. If you have a brand-new website with only a handful of visitors per day, go with shared hosting.

Increase Speed While Decreasing Downtime: With VPS hosting, you don't need to worry about your visitors having difficulty accessing your website. Visitors to your site will be able to find what they need as quickly as possible; this promotes your brand's image and shows you're reliable. VPS hosting offers you the chance to extend as your site does. It's adaptable, which implies your hosting supplier can without much of a stretch change the measure of server space that's dedicated to you as your traffic develops.

Following are some of the important functions of VPS Hosting

File Manager
Schedule Backups
Reset Root Password
Command Center, which allows you to execute arbitrary commands in the vps and view the output
