Linux has been widely considered the best OS for Web servers. It's typically found to be the most reliable, stable and efficient system and, as such, it's commonly used for the demanding environment of Web and mail servers. Also a web site designed to be hosted on a Linux based web server can be hosted on a Windows web server easily, where as the reverse is not always true.Windows is more popular as all we know.. Linux is the best option for security.. So for security reason linux is best and no one able to hack a linux machine .
-
I go for Linux because it security is better and it has scalability and other features.
-
Both are very successful and nice operating system. They provide excellent security and as well as in Linux operating system we need not install any type ant-virus. But it is very hard to understand so i prefer windows operating system because of it's user friendly features.

If you have any security issue you can go to windows hosting and otherwise you go to Linux hosting

Windows vs. Linux hosting: What is the same?
When comparing Windows vs. Linux hosting there are many rumors you may have heard about why one is better than the other. In reality, there are several things that are virtually the same whether you choose Windows hosting or Linux hosting:
Performance. On both platforms the speed and efficiency will be comparable when an experienced administrator manages it.
Stability. While Windows web hosting systems were notoriously unstable in the past, the stability between a Windows server and a Linux server today is negligible.
Static pages. Windows platforms and Linux platforms can host static HTML file almost identically.
Ease of use. Most interaction with your web hosting system will be through FTP or a server's control panel. So even if Windows provides a nice GUI interface, you aren't likely to use it anyway.
Security. Though the topic could be argued by operating system purists, today, both web hosting platforms are comparably secure.

According to me, Linux is best hosting service to protect from viruses. Because its an open source.
-
This really depends on what applications you're running. And what scripts/support you need.
Typically Linux is the choice that many web hosting pick as it's been the norm.

The main factor for most of people choosing Windows web hosting is caused by the Microsoft technology cannot be run on the Linux platform. In detail, these reasons include:
Access - the file based relational database usually used by small or private websites.
MS SQL server - the relational database system usually used by ASP and a large number of ASP.NET hosting providers.
Frontpage - the web page creator for "what you see is what you can get" that allows developers to create web pages and forms then easily upload to the website.
ASP - known as Classic ASP or ASP Classic, was Microsoft's first server-side script engine for dynamically-generated web pages, initially released as an add-on feature to internet information services (IIS) in 1998.
.net framework - the software framework provides a variety of solutions for any kinds of applications. with the .net framework being mature and popular in the developer community, more and more people have devoted into ASP.NET websites development. moreover there is another possibility that ASP.NET websites can be run on Linux based on mono platform, but it's immature and not quality guaranteed.

I think Linux is better than the windows. Because Linux is much more highly configurable than windows. It is a free open source operating system.
-
Both are Good but if you are a developer or Programmer so, Linux is the best choice for you as it is more secure than Windows.
