H2 tags are used for the subheadings and it is the second important heading tag after the main heading (H1).

In classic HTML, there would be one H1 heading tag on each page, maybe a couple of H2 heading tags etc and these would all combine to form an outline of the entire document. .... Well, we feel that the value is less than it was, but headings still help Google to grasp the main topics of a long post.

H2 tag don't have an "esteem". Just components that carry on as frame controls have an esteem property (e.g. the information component). It is connected to different components.
