Is it better to register an old domain name or a new one?

I find myself trying to buy another domain name, but should I register a domain that was registered in 1999 and expired in 2008 or should I register a fresh domain? Will it rank better if I buy the old domain or the new one? What do you guys think?

If old domain is promoted and owned by you and you redesigned your website then the old one is better, otherwise, it won't matter for Google now.

Always go for fresh ones, who knows your old domain has been flipped out by spammers in past years. Get a new domain and start fresh!

If your domain expired in 2008 it wont really matter if you register a fresh domain or the old one. Because even if stick to the old name its going to rank the same as the new one as its been sitting idle (as a parked page or a simple 404) for a while now. The value of buying the old domain would be similar to buying a new one.

If you're sure your old one is not spammed, it is only when you can use it. Otherwise, you should register a new one.

I think it depends on your business products name, nowadays brand name domain is potential, then you can choose new one.

Well, it depends on your intentions. If you want to build your own brand and that old domain suits your brand, then, go for it. Old domain names usually have higher DA. That is why an old domain will usually rank on SERPs better than a new one.

Buying multiple domains for your business can improve its online identity and protect your brand from fierce competitors. Keeping domain names out of the hands of competitors is just one of the reasons why it is a great idea to invest in multiple variations of your primary domain.
