Semantic HTML is the use of HTML markup to reinforce the semantics, or meaning, of the information in webpages and web applications rather than merely to define its presentation or look. Semantic HTML is processed by traditional web browsers as well as by many other user agents. CSS is used to suggest its presentation to human users.

As an example, recent HTML standards discourage use of the element i in preference of more accurate elements such as em the C S S style sheet should then specify whether emphasis is denoted by an italic font, a bold font, underlining, slower or louder audible speech etc.

New Semantic Elements in HTML5. Many web sites contain HTML code like: <div id="nav"> <div class="header"> <div id="footer"> to indicate navigation, header, and footer.

    Hi

Semantic HTML or semantic markup is HTML that introduces meaning to the web page rather than just presentation. For example, a <p> tag indicates that the enclosed text is a paragraph. This is both semantic and presentational, because people know what paragraphs are and browsers know how to display them.

Semantics also known as Structural element. Semantic HTML is processed by traditional web browsers as well as by many other user agents.Semantic markup improves the visibility in reach of your website in a variety of way and it is defines a set of tags that allow us to assign elements of our web page with meaning to both the browser and the developer.

    E.g- Semantic elements:
    <table>, <form>, <img>
    it clearly defines its content.

Semantic HTML are elements clearly described to have a meaning to both the browser and the developer.

    Here you can see some of them: <article>, <footer>, <aside>, <details>, <main>, <nav>, <section>

With html4 you had to use your own id/class names to style elements, making it impossible for search engines to identify the correct web page content

A semantic element clearly describes its meaning to both the browser and the developer. Examples of non-semantic elements: <div> and <span> - Tells nothing about its content.
