Semantic encoding is the processing and encoding of sensory input that has particular meaning or can be applied to a context. Various strategies can be applied such as chunking and mnemonics to aid in encoding, and in some cases, allow deep processing, and optimizing retrieval.

Semantic Encoding. As you know, encoding is the process of getting information into memory for storage. Semantic encoding is a specific type of encoding in which the meaning of something (a word, phrase, picture, event, whatever) is encoded as opposed to the sound or vision of it.

Semantic markup (or Semantic coding) is the practice of programming your website so that the code used is descriptive and representative of the information it contains. For example, instead of using code like this:

<div id="page-title">Hi, my website is about Semantic markup</div>
