Domain extension refers to the notation found at the end of web addresses. The extension is used to specify a country code or any web category. For example, .edu is a domain extension to specify educational institution as the web category.

Domain extension basically signifies the which field it is related if there is a govt. website's extension is .gov, similarly.org and .edu for organization and education websites.

Domain extension dont have new definition for SEO. It still remains the end of web address.

Domain name is used to address your website just like your name .Domain extension is basically top level domain .
Example : .com , .org and .edu .
People usually use .com because it is user friendly and it has more traffic .
