Pogo-sticking is when the searcher clicks on a link on a SERP, sees that it's not what she is looking for, and immediately bounces off by hitting the back button.

Pogo sticking occurs when a user performs a search, clicks on a result, very quickly clicks back to the search result page, and clicks on a different result.

Pogo-sticking refers only to the latter cause of high bounce rates. Depending on the nature of your website, wikis for example, a high bounce rate may be a sign of success but pogo-sticking is never a good thing.

A pogo stick is a device for jumping off the ground in a standing position, through the aid of a spring, or new high performance technologies, often used as a toy, exercise equipment or extreme sports instrument.[1] It led to an extreme sport named extreme pogo or "Xpogo".

It consists of a pole with a handle at the top and footrests near the bottom, and a spring located somewhere along the pole. The spring joins two sections of the pole, which extends below the footpads.

Pogo-sticking can be a problem within websites. While this will not affect your rankings, it can have a negative impact on your prospect’s browsing experience and may cause them to give up before converting.
