Here are some useful guidelines for website design.
1) Do not use splash pages
2) Do not use excessive banner advertisements
3) Have a basic and obvious navigation
4) Have a clear clue of where the user is
5) Stay away from audio in your website

I do no agree with No.5. You can have audio. as long as it is not auto play

(1) Visibility
(2) Memory Load
(3) Errors
(4) Language
(5)Visual Design
etc.
