Footer and header are two parts of the design. Everything you would add or display in these two parts, your visitors would more likely to notice. So according to different purpose here are some ideas for its design.

If you have survey related website or want to have your visitors feedback on special products, adding form or polls at footer will be more responsive.

If you have a website which contain large content divided into various categories, Displaying navigation to these categories in the footer is good practice.

If you have a website which is built on a certain theme or small website for customer support, displaying quick contact and theme relevant graphic will work great..

Displaying social media engagement in the future will also get more visitors to notice you post on other popular social media sites.
