I, personally would recommend CPanel. CPanel always get updated. It is also the #1 hosting control panel on the market now-a-days. They have many great features and very easy to navigate. Anyone who never had hosting before won't have a problem navigating CPanel. :-)

I would recommend Plesk, its just as user friendly and providers very similar features, also a highly popular control panel.

I never used plesk, but yeah. Tahir is correct. Plesk is also a highly popular control panel for hosting. It's a competition between cpanel and plesk. You can choose. I currently use cpanel, but I know people who use plesk and have no problems at all. They find it easy to drive as well.

When it comes to selection of control panel for a newbie then its very important that he must look on following aspect:

    1. Level of support, response time of your query for both free and paid control panel
    2. User friendly and logical interface.
    3. Other FREE value-added services, like billing system, payment processing, scripting, DNS, Mail, DB managers etc.
    4. Now days you will find couple of CP vendors offering FREE 3rd-party soft wares like free mail, statistic servers etc. This will save you a handsome amount of money at the end.
    5. Only if you are a programmer, how much customization that CP support and how easily 3rd-party applications can be integrated?
    6. Few experience web host may not find it significant but it's very important for newbie (especially) that how easily control panel and its supported soft wares can be installed and integrated together. I know few CP vendors charge for installation and configuration of their application.
    7. Last but not the least - Price, looks for both one-time and monthly rental options. Try to find a cheap solution for your business.

These could be few points a newbie MUST look before selecting any control panel because once you start using a CP its difficult to switch, believe me.

    I like HELM and cPanel.

Both have some very good features.

HELM does have integrated billing etc too which is handy!

We use H-Sphere, it's a complete system. They constantly update it and has far fewer bugs than CPanel. Although I'm sure I'll get flack from the CPanel people for that one. CPanel is a lot more popular though, I see a lot more hosts offering it than H-Sphere or the others mentioned.

you wanna sell a lot of hosting and please the majority go with cpanel.
If you want a really updated and secure server enviorment and you are not afraid to do stuff in the shell then directadmin is the way to go.
My developer and security concious customers love direct admin, I do as well, mainly because we have all the latest stable software and we can upgrade and configure any way we like. It doesnt take over your server like apache...but its hard to sell, people are still stuck on cpanel

Firstly, could you please ensure you don’t self-advertise any more obviously your views and recommendations are biased towards directAdmin and cPanel based hosting. There are plenty of control panels out there which offer just as much security, reliability and simplicity as cPanel and DirectAdmin, at the end of the day its usually down to what the client prefers, especially if the client has used a specific control panel in the past with a previous host.

True, clients always ask for the one they are used to. I have been a cpanel user for a long time. Recently had to manage a plesk based server and really didnt like it. Its true that plesk have almost all the features we need and a nice GUI, still felt like somethign missing!

BTW, is it possible to transfer sites automatically between two plesk based servers? I have used the functionality in WHM / cPanel setup and loved it.
