$100 is not a competitive budget for a dedicated server. I think one should have atleast $200 budget for the dedicated server.

For a reliable dedicated server you need something more than $200, that too would give you a minimum config one so if your requirements are more would need more mullah

Can you specify what you mean by a competitive budget? I always thought it's the one helping you to compete with others.

Not really. It all comes down to what kins of a server you need.
If you just have few websites with say up to 500GB bandwidth per month, you can be more than happy with a less than $100 pm server. For such needs a P4 with 1GB ram must be good enough, which must come around $100 unmanaged.

Higher requirements(SCSI/Xeon/More GB of ram) will cost more and ofcourse server management will be costly.

Personally I dont find any logic in running a poll. There is not such thing as a standard dedicated server, cost varies a lot depending on the requirements.

It all depends if you use colo or lease.
For a leased server, we like clients with a budget of 400 to 600 dollars per month. Our low end dedicated leases for around 160 if you pay set-up.

Dual core processors and unmetered bandwidth is expensive..

If you go colo, all you pay is rack space and the bandwidth fees. Colo gets pricey if you need NOC staff to swap out drives or maintain the box for you.

It has to be above $200 if you are looking for a reliable dedicated server along with good support with it.

It depends on the server, bandwidth and if it's managed or unmanaged, but in general between $200 and $400 per month.

Way more than $100... I don't believe it's possible to have a fully redundant server running in a decent datacenter for less than $100 per month.

I guess it's possible, but the question is what will be the quality of the service, hardware and bandwidth...
