Cost of a server depends on the company hosting the server. Some companies look for low ROI (Return on Investment), while others look for high ROI, in a effort to bring in the customers faster. This affects costs because if a company would rather gain money faster to pay off the hardware they may require a higher price this would be a example of low ROI, vice versa. Another would be a the management of the server. Unmanaged providers are cheaper because they do not provide much if any support. You buy and you are on your own. They do not require much staff and if you have a problem many of them will either swap a server or do nothing at all. A semi managed or managed host will charge anywhere from a bit more to a lot more depending on what they consider their services are worth. Price does not make the host. What makes the host is support, uptime, and customer treatment. If you want cheap then that's what you will get. It may be good or bad, but some prefer to pay a bit more for quality.
