If you look into PHP forums about the PHP vs .NET market share, you will be surprised to know that PHP takes the lead as the popular choice. Although both can be used to connect databases, PHP is the favourite because of its customizability and compatibility across platforms and operating systems.

In term of web development i prefer PHP rather then .net, php is more flexible and easy to use scripting language.

PHP is emerging out tremendously and also it has very good scope in future. It is the server-side HTML embedded scripting language. It provides web developers with a full suite of tools for building dynamic websites.

PHP is an open source and free language that can easily be download and use. Whereas .Net it's a Microsoft product that you need to buy and not everyone is expert in .Net if any error occurs or website need amendment you only need to hire .net expert but PHP is easy and any other language programer can also perform the task.

Even, I agree that undoubtedly, dot net is a better language because dot net framework provides more features to the users for a dynamic web creation easily.

Then try .NET. Doing two things or more is definitely better than doing a single thing. But I see a lot of PHP users online. Very many of them. So it's still a good program.

Since it is for ecommerce site, there are a lot of reasons why we choose .net framework. First,Web pages built using .NET framework run successfully on all web browsers,.NET framework can be used to build any complex website or web application. Moreover, the code is compiled on the server before sending it to the internet browser thus the web page takes less time to load and the end users can’t view coding portion of the website, learn more from here.
