Both Windows and Linux hosting runs on the respective servers. Since the Linux is open source the hosting cost is less.
However, all the Microsoft based tools and technologies like .net, VS are supported only by the Windows Hosting.
Finally, it is the user requirement to make the choice between the Linux and Windows Hosting based on their requirements

Both Windows and Linux are perfect operating systems.

Windows based servers are mostly setup with Plesk panel, Linux servers use Plesk, Cpanel and ISP panels.

Windows servers use IIS as the web-server, Apache is used ion the Linux based machines.

For shared hosting I prefer Linux, but Windows is also not bad.

Linux and Windows are the operating systems which are used on your servers. Linux is an open source os and windows is owned by Microsoft.

Linux is preferred by many due to it being cheaper and effective. Windows is costlier due to license fees but it supports many applications specifically made for it like ASP.

Both have their own pros and cons.

Linux is open hosting; hence the costs are less. This ideal for start ups with limited budget. Most Windows products come at a price. But it's still good since many online and offline computer products are compatible with it. Both Linux and Windows are excellent OS to work with.

Windows and Linux both type of Servers supports PHP and MySQL Hosting. Linux can be optimized to work in almost any environment and provides overall increased performance. Windows Server works seamlessly and it provides ease of use. Windows Server offers support for ASP and ASP.NET for website hosting, something that a Linux server can’t offer.

Linux and Windows are two different types of operating systems. Linux is more secure and more efficient than Windows. Linux also has more of the features web designers expect, so unless you have websites which need specific Windows applications

Forum seems pretty dead. This thread was from 2013. I would bet they figured it out by now
On another note though, seems like stuff like this is either automated, sig spam or something to boost post count

Both Linux and Windows are operating systems that are used by the servers to do their intended purpose. There are several different flavors of Linux including traditional Unix operating systems, and Windows also come in several different versions such as NT, 2000 and 2003 Servers.

Linux is an open source system and is therefore more cost-effective to operate and maintain than Windows, meaning that Linux hosting will cost you less than Windows hosting. Linux also has a reputation for stability and speed which means that Linux web servers will crash less often than Windows web servers and Linux runs most processes faster than windows.
