Please note that Windows Vista Home Basic is the edition of Windows for basic home computing needs. If you wish to use your PC for tasks like browsing the Internet, using e-mail, or viewing photos, then Windows Vista Home Basic is ideal for it. It won't provide as many benefits as Windows Vista Home Premium, it will help you use your PC more easily and more safely than you could with Windows XP.

I wouldn't go with Vista. People haven't created the correct drivers for most things yet, and besides SP3 screwed up my computer!

I personally love Vista and would recommend it. This is comming from a Microsoft fan, and I say I love Vista as experience with Macs are confusing for somebody who only uses Windows (yes, I know you can learn to use it) and with linux I miss my availablility of most programs I'm use to.

When you perform a clean installation, your existing version of Windows, including all of your files, settings, and programs, is automatically replaced. You can back up your files and settings, but you must manually reinstall your programs and restore backed-up files when the installation is done. For information about how to restore your files after a clean installation, go to How to restore your personal files after you perform a custom installation online.
