When looking for a VPS are you more inclined to go with KVM or OpenVZ? What benefits does one have against the others? What other solutions do you prefer. i'd love to hear your feedback.

Choosing a KVM or OpenVZ platform totally depends on your requirements. Both have their own advantages and disadvantages. So it entirely depends on the customer to choose the required service for their hosting.
