No doubt, exchange online has helped a lot of business in increasing their productivity but I am confused on advantages it has over Google Apps as they come for free.

Exchange Server, the Microsoft also messaging and collaboration server is the No. 1 corporate messaging software on the Internet. Exchange Server has also quickly gained more popularity among organizations of different sizes and includes a number of features not available in our free and regular POP3 email accounts on the Internet

I wouldn't use Exchange. Way too expensive and way to expensive to maintain. the mail server software we use is MailEnable. It is a great program, cheaper than Exchange, and provides just as good or perhaps more options than Exchange.

It boosts company productivity through advanced features like always-synced email, files, calendars and contacts; mobile access on devices such as the iPhone, iPad, Android, BlackBerry, Treo or Motorola Q; advanced Web-mail; shared calendars that let employees see colleagues' availability to schedule or rearrange meetings, book conference rooms and plan projects; shared task lists that allow 'to do' lists to be created and assigned, then shared with team members; and shared contacts which guarantee that customers' contact details will never be lost or misplaced.

Unfortunately, for most small and midsize businesses (SMBs), the cost of running an MS Exchange server 'in-house' is simply too much. Up-front costs can exceed $10,000—plus staff time to maintain the server. This is why hosted Exchange makes sense for smaller businesses.

    Jamsen,
You act as if Exchange is the only option that supports all that and a flavor that is less expensive is hosted Exchange. Everyone I ever talked to all agree Exchange is too much of a hassle but they were never educated to better alternatives. There are better, cheaper, and just as reliable or more reliable options than Exchange that are used from 1 man operations to multi-million dollar across nations platforms. MailEnable is a perfect example. We have used it for years. The ONLY option that Exchange has that MailEnable did not have at the time was for one office likes--and only because they switched from their Exchange environment to our service -- was a shared calendar and contacts. (We did find some third party software that solved this issue.)

MailEnable has been compatible with mobile devices for almost 10 years (or longer) so I don't want to hear Exchange is the answer for business solutions. There are better and more affordable options. Need a host? Come to Williams Web Solutions. I will be happy to host your non-Exchange e-mail and you can access it any time from any where from any internet-ready device.
