shorter isn't always better, but as long as the words together don't make a weird name, then it's all fine. Avoid something like www.therapistfinder.com Some funny names here: http://www.boredpanda.com/worst-domain-names/

The domain name should have a length of about 10 to 20 words. The domain name contains the keywords your website content.

According to all the new (short or long) TLDs I understand your considerations but 'the length of a domain should be the amount of the characters left side of the dot.
For example, 63.DOMAINS have 63 characters, equal how long the TLD itself is.

For me this are the "must do" when choosing a domain name:
1 choose a name that can be a branded
2 name that's easy to pronounce
3 should be as short as possible, but no shorter, don't force it
4 .com, not 100% sure but I always try to get a .com
5 don't infringe on trademarks, in the best case you'll lose them
    6 make the name intuitive
7 use keywords when possible in the domain name

There are no set guidelines for the length of domain names. Obviously, the shorter, the better, but it needs to relate somehow to the content on your site.

An area name can be the length of 253 characters on the whole - however it's uncommon that one is. Here are some intriguing insights identified with area name length.
As indicated by a report from area commercial center SEDO, amid 2011 the most prevalent length for any name exchanged on the commercial center was 8 characters - the longest was 42 characters.
