Difference between metered and unmetered bandwidth

So what is the difference between metered and unmetered bandwidth? I find there are two basic options but not sure which one is the best for Game Server with over 1000 people.

Metered bandwidth is a restricted bandwidth that is provided to your hosting service after consumption you will need to buy more bandwidth. Unmetered bandwidth is unlimited bandwidth. The bandwidth limit is set so that you cannot consume the allotted bandwidth in the current month.

    Hi,

in metered BW services the provider give you limited mount of bw like 5 TB per month, also you should have it mind BW will reset on the end of each month.

On the unmetered services you have enough BW that you cant finish it

Unlimited bandwidth is un-metered and metered bandwidth means limited amount.

First of all you need to check your server LAN port. Basically, all LAN ports are available at 1GB/s, 10GB/s or 40 GB/s. If your service provider provides you a network speed between your LAN card and the bandwidth provided, only then it will be beneficial for you. If the bandwidth is lower than the LAN card speed, you need to upgrade your bandwidth, means you will use metered bandwidth as per your requirement.
Unmetered bandwidth is default service provider bandwidth.

    Check your uplink

You get the idea from the previous comments, you also have to consider your uplink connectivity, there is only a limited amount of traffic that you can generate depending on the type of uplink you have. Let's say you have a 1Gbps port, that means you can only transfer around 330 TB/ month. Going for an unmetered plan makes sense with a higher connectivity, some dedicated server providers offer unshared 10Gbps, 20Gbps, or even 40Gbps ports. If you want you can test a unshared 10Gbps connection for 7 days with a british provider, check 10gbps.io

Metered bandwidth will cost based on how much bandwidth you use.
Unmetered bandwidth doesn't keep track of bandwidth usage and won't cost any additional.

Unmetered Bandwidth : As the name suggests that the bandwidth is unlimited it will set upto 100 TB for example and practically it is not possible to completely utilise, Even if utilized it will be reset for you . So in these cases the services will be unmetered.

Metered Bandwidth : Here the Bandwidth will be set to the extent depending on the plan you have purchased. There are numerous plans hosting provider gives you to different quantity of resources depending on the plans you purchased.

There is not a big difference in metered and unmetered bandwidth, in metered bandwidth, you get limited bandwidth, and in unmetered bandwidth, you will get unlimited bandwidth. My suggestion is you should go with unmetered bandwidth.

Metered Connections could be regarded as a capped network that restricts the amount of data transfer. ... Whereas an unmetered connection allows for a free flow of data. By default, all WiFi networks on your device are unmetered.
