Bounce rate is one of the most misunderstood metrics in Google Analytics. Bounce rate is the percentage of single page visits (or web sessions). It is the number of visits in which a person leaves your website from the landing page without browsing any further.

Bounce rate is the percentage of visitors to a given website that leaves the site after viewing only a single page. A high bounce rate can be interpreted to mean either that the content is not relevant to its target market or that the site is not attracting its target market effectively. Bounce rate can be measured in one of two ways: Either determining the number of visitors who enter the website but “bounce” or move before exploring anything other than the entry page or determining which visitors leave the site after only a brief time period.
