SSL (Secure Socket Layer) provides a secure connection between internet browsers and websites, allowing you to transmit private data online.

SSL uses a cryptographic system that uses two keys to encrypt data − a public key known to everyone and a private or secret key known only to the recipient of the message.

There are many benefits to using SSL Certificates:

    - Get HTTPs which elicits a stronger Google ranking
    - Create safer experiences for your customers
    - Build customer trust and improve conversions
    - Protect both customer and internal data
    - Encrypt browser-to-server and server-to-server communication
    - Increase security of your mobile and cloud apps

THe best answer short of googling the actual question. Though there is a debate online that ssl is not as safe as we previusly thought whether this is the exposeure of a false sales tactic or indeed sales tactic in itself remains to be sen , however google gives preference to https sites which says alot for the credibility of those saying ssl offers a safer web experience .

    Hello Friends,

Most Web browsers support SSL, and many websites use the protocol to obtain confidential user information, including credit card numbers.

SSL stands for Secure socket layer. SSL is a standard for websites now, in 2017. Google started implementing what we have expected earlier in 2017. Now encryption between your browser and server could be acheived using the SSL certificates, this makes sure there is no eavesdropping. It can also prevent man in the middle attacks. Wheteher you use website to capture personal information or credit cards or anything else. SSL is good to implement. Everyone is now getting aware of privacy and security. LetsEncrypt is a good place to start for FREE SSL Certificates.

Let's assume you are doing online business and you want to give a secure and safe environment to your customer. In this case, you will need web security for this you will need SSL certificate.SSL certificates confirm the identity of the website and encrypt data/information transferred between client browser and server.
Without SSL certificate your customer data like credit/debit card details, personal info is on the high risk of getting stolen.Suppose a customer is purchasing something from your site with his/her credit/debit card without SSL certificate card number will be transferred to a server as it is (‎6331-1019-9999-0016) but with SSL certificate it will get encrypted (q!#cCXSFqec;63'wewcx) and no one will know what data is sent.
