Linux hosting is compatible with PHP and MySQL, which supports scripts such as WordPress, Zen Cart, and phpBB. Windows hosting, on the other hand, uses Windows as the servers' operating system and offers Windows-specific technologies such as ASP, .NET, Microsoft Access and Microsoft SQL server (MSSQL).

Yes its easy to manage linux hosting. It also efficiently manages htaccess files which is widely used. For windows hosting, you need a separate code for managing redirection.

Linux-based hosting is more popular, it has more of the features web designers expect. So unless you have websites which need specific Windows applications, Linux is the preferred choice.

There are many advantages of using Linux based Hosting Services like:

    1. Linux is open source while you have to pay for using Windows OS. So Linux is cost effective.
    2. Most of the Popular CMS runs on Linux while you'll need to tweak your windows hosting for using those cms.
    3. Developing websites using CMS or PHP is easier & const effective than developing website or web app on asp.net
    4. There is a conflict about security. Some people say Windows is secure & some other say Linux is.

By thinking trough all the aspects certainly Linux based Hosting is the reasonable one.

Hence, more preferred by system administrators. It is seen that linux is mostly used with dedicated web server hosting services.

Linux is the best choice for hosting. Most of the Popular CMS runs on Linux and developing websites using CMS or PHP is easier. The Windows hosting is good for SEO, trading robots, spams.... I'm using my Windows VPS's for SEO. I'm running GSA SER, Captcha Sniper + Scapebox on 2gb and 2Core VPS and it's running perfect.
