There are so many on-page optimization techniques among which content optimization is best which is important and should be done properly.

I'm not sure what is the best On-page technique since each person has a his own way of doing on-page. Overall, it still surrounds optimizing page through these aspects:
1) Site Design, Structure (it supposes to load fast, has a clear structure with links and categories for audience to follow. Therefore, it doesn't really need to look flashy and beautiful, efficiency is still in higher priority)
2) Keywords - Meta Keywords (though it seems meta keyword isn't that important anymore)
3) Meta Description - really important
4) Keywords density ratio
5) Unique content
There are probably more than these five, I mostly work with blog and news. Market/shop site may have some differences though.
