Cache is the process of taking the snapshot of the website and storing its information for indexing purpose. Once the website is indexed it is shown on the SERPs.

Cache is used by Google while indexing the page. When someone accesses the site that time Google captures the screenshot of it in it's memory so when next time you will access the site, it will be displayed from that stored data. That is nothing but cache.

Browser always used to display the sites from theses indexed pages. When page get changed or updated that time new page need to be indexed. That is why indexing is important for caching too.

In the very simplest of definitions, cache is a snapshot of a web page that Google creates and stores after they have indexed a page. When pages are indexed, they are categorized and filed within Google's indexers, but they do not actively search though millions of web pages every time that page is called up

    * In the simplest terms, Cache is software or hardware resource which stores the data so that it can be fetched must faster in future when the request for that data arrives. In website's analogy Cache is set of those web pages which are frequently accessed by the particular user & which is stored on the client side in the browser it uses, so that request time for that user can be minimized.

    * Technically, you can see the cache in two ways - either as the snapshot of the web page or as a text-only version of that page. Both can be seen on any search engine, when by clicking on the green URL located below every search result.

    * But as an SEO analyst, we should always be aware that any search engine index the web page based on its text-only version & Cache allows us to watch it. So we should always create our content keeping in mind that how our text-only version will look like? are there proper keywords been placed there? If yes, then you will gain a competitive advantage in the market.

Cache status indicate active participation of crawler on your website. If crawler is visiting your website daily and updating its data base with updates occurred on your website, it means your website is being cached frequently. But if you are updating your website but it is not being shown in “cache”, it means Google is not prioritizing to your new update occurred on your website.

Cache in SEO means to check that web crawler has indexed your link, website or webpage or not. If it displays a screenshot then it means it has indexed it.
