In web application, the data is stored in user's browser locally. It is never stored in cookies that is why your web browser performs the faster. The data is secure as it's stored locally.

The data won't be deleted, it won't have any expiration date.

Local storage is more secure, and large amounts of data can be stored locally, without affecting website performance. Earlier data had to be stored in cookies but now web applications can store data locally within the user's browser.
