Internet directories & other free marketing methods

    Hi!

What are your experiences about internet directories?

Have they been successful in bringing traffic to your site?
Have they affected your Google page rank?

    Hello,

Directories will send you click traffic.. there are many small and vertical directories out there that have a loyal audience - every click counts

Some internet directories will pass page rank/link juice. The most popular one being DMOZ. Other larger internet directories such as Yahoo and Best Of The Web will also be highly beneficial in passing page rank and traffic

Other directories will pass page rank though the strength of this page rank will not be as great.

A directory submission campaign MUST be part of every good SEO campaign!

Looking for more information about web and internet directories?

SEO is not a set and forget process, nor is one part of SEO sufficient to maximize on natural search traffic.

Directory submissions, though important are just one element of a search engine optimization campaign.

There are a variety of other elements that need to be considered, both on and off page when optimizing a website for natural search success.

    i.e.
    Search Engine Submission
    link building
    Content creation
    Code optimization
    site structure
    site navigation
    Internal linking etc.....

I think that first time you need to combinate both SEO and SEM

In my opinion a combination of SEO and SMO (social media optimization) is the way to go with before you start working on SEM.

    Search engine optimziation 21st Century

Submitting to 500-5000 web directories is thing of the past.

Search engines are getting more and more proactive and are thwarting any attempts to artificially inflate rankings for a specific set of keywords.

It is best to follow a natural pattern when it comes to optimization. Submitting to several thousand directories with same Title could actually work like a boomerang for your rankings.

Whatever you do, just make sure that it is always aligned with Natural ways of making any site popular which includes articles, social bookmarkings, PPC etc etc.

I think inclusion of site in quality directories which have impressive listing would worth more, in addition of directory you should also use social bookmarking sites for sharing your content and tagging.

Directories doesnt send any traffic - well most of them. They had been useful for link building, but these days most of them are penalised. Still they are useful from SEO point of view, to some extend. Be vice, select the directories that could really help you. Paid links in high quality vertical directories and industry leaders might help.
