Keywords are used for searching your website from words or phrases. You should study that how people are searching so your site should get ranked using those keywords.

Keyword is the base of SEO, without keywords, your website will not be ranked as expected.

If you have just launched your website then go with the long-tail keywords. If your keyword phrase contains at-least three words in it then it is called as long-tail keyword. Those keywords provide short term as well as long term benefits. They give the highly qualified traffic which provides the lead to customers. These are easier to rank as there is no competition to long-tail keywords. Those are specific to what you are selling.

Keyword phrase is the combination of one or more words typed in the search query. That is you don't just need the the single keyword, you must have the keyword phrase as users used to search for the keyword phrases. Those are the words which are typed in the search query.

Your objective should be to rank on maximum key phrases for your website not just single keywords. As soon as you will start ranking on maximum phrases Google will automatically start showing your website for your targeted keywords.

Keywords, key phrases, keyword phrases. ... So a keyword phrase means a set of separate words that build a phrase (so it's a multi-word search term). If it is really necessary to distinguish between a single word and a phrase, these terms are used in their initial strict meaning.
