Why is Yahoo the most popular search engine in Japan and not Google?

Yahoo JP's search engine's results seem to be more relevant to the Japanese than Google Japan's search results.
Also, Yahoo was first and the Japanese are pretty slow to pick up new things or change their ways.

It's up to user which search engine they prefer for their query, but Google is now most popular.

Google handles all of my daily web searching, email, chat, RSS feeds, blog monetization, etc. In my opinion, it blows Yahoo (and most other Internet companies) clear out of the water. However, there are a select few services that I regularly turn to Yahoo for.
