This is important because the information you send on the Internet is passed from computer to computer to get to the destination server. Any computer in between you and the server can see your credit card numbers, usernames and passwords, and other sensitive information if it is not encrypted with an SSL certificate.

Google clearly and accurately labeling sites lacking SSL certification as non-secure. SSL certificate will be a big ranking factor this year.It is better for switching to HTTPS.

Not that compulsory but having SSL install your website is a trust factor for the users and SE. It has the slight effect on the ranking.

Yes, SSL certificate affects on ranking factor. In 2014 Google officially announced HTTPS as a ranking signal. Security is a top priority for Google.Sensitive information like credit card numbers is encrypted, meaning they cannot be intercepted. Customers are more likely to trust and complete purchases from sites that use HTTPS. SSL certificates are issued and rely on the trustworthiness of certificate authorities. With SSL users can verify that you own the domain and are a registered business.

Google has announced that SSL Certificates will be a must for websites and will therefore also affect ranking of websites in the Google SERP (Search Engine Rank Page).

These certificates make your site secured. By introducing the clause of SSL certificate as one of the ranking factors, Google wants to make the entire web a secured place, without any malicious content present. By having SSL certificate, your site will have “https://” that makes your site secure.

Google finds around 9,500 new malicious websites every day. With the implementation of SSL certificate by every site, the online world will become malicious content or website free.
