As a webmaster, I like to use free web hosting to host my non-profit sites, or web sites that are in their beginning stages. It is easy to sign-up for a free web site to try out new site ideas, or just to store files for a while.

The cheapest paid host is just 100 bucks a year, why wasting time and worrying about down times / data losses on free host? Especially if you decide to invest your time in your website anyway.

Its okay to use free web host at beginning stage of web site, but keep backup of data on a your local system.
I would not recommend free hosting to even a personal website because there might be Security problems, you may loss your data or someone can exploit to gain access of your website.

Free Hosting is not a good way to host your site , when you afford to pay, you are playing with your site as well as with your business by doing so. You will \never get the service you want with Free hosting. one advantage of money is not equal to all other disadvantages with the Free package.
If you love your Website, try not to go with Free hosting
I also do not think free hosts are the good choise. While paid ones feel responsibility they have as you pay money for the service, free hosts care only about places for advertizement. Youpay this or that, but with paid hosts you at least can expect for qualty.
the most reasonable way to host site is to choose the stable and cost-efficient provider. Particularly I recommend serverpoint.com.

As said, you get what you pay for.
If you're running a non profit site then provided you're responsible enough to keep backups, it'll probably not be a problem.
I've heard many tales of commercial sites using free hosts without backups, believe it or not. Some of them didn't end too well as you can imagine.

Testing is the only thing I'd use free hosts for. The service isn't good enough for a business site but if I just wanted to test things out I'd consider it.
All depends on what professional level you want to present yourself. If you find a free host that gives you everything you want and reliability go for it. But there are cheap enough hosting deals out there that I think you can probably get that gives a person everything they need including a professional service

I also agree it's OK to use free hosting to start with. But paid hosting can't be beaten. I'm not going list all the benefits of paid hosting because there is too many :D the only advantage with free hosting is it's free.

Free hosting is not bad for the web sites which is created for a hobby. Don't forget to take the regular backups.
