SL stands for secure sockets layer and is a form of security for sites that handle sensitive information such as customer names, phone numbers, addresses and credit card numbers. It creates a secure connection between a customer’s web browser and the server of the company they’re interacting with.

SSL Certificates are small data files that digitally bind a cryptographic key to an organization's details. When installed on a web server, it activates the padlock and the https protocol and allows secure connections from a web server to a browser.

Hi

After the secure connection is made, the session key is used to encrypt all transmitted data. Browser connects to a web server (website) secured with SSL (https). Browser requests that the server identify itself. Server sends a copy of its SSL Certificate, including the server's public key.

SSL (Secure Socket Layer) means the way information is exchanged between a web browser and a web server. The data sent is encrypted, and therefore the data transmitted is protected. It is used to encrypt data sent between the server and the user's computer.

Benefits of having an SSL certificate:

A sense of security - the user using the website is sure that the information sent will not fall into the wrong hands. She will shop more willingly or fill out the contact form on the SSL-certified website.

Credibility - SSL certificate confirms the reliability of the website, and with more advanced EV certificates also the entire company.

Prestige - the SSL certificate clearly shows that the security and confidentiality rules are essential for your company/person.

Brand Recognition - Having an SSL certificate reflects potential customers that you are a severe contractor you can trust.

SSL certificates are used to secure data transfers, credit card transactions, logins and other personal information. They provide security to customers and make visitors more likely to stay on a website for longer periods of time.

The primary reason why SSL is used is to keep sensitive information sent across the Internet encrypted so that only the intended recipient can access it. This is important because the information you send on the Internet is passed from computer to computer to get to the destination server.
