Alternatively referred to as a link exchange, reciprocal links are hyperlinks placed between two web pages in exchange for the other page linking back.

They are an important part of search engine optimization as engines like Google rank the web pages in their results by the number of different pages link to yours. By participating in link exchanges, a site may be able to increase its rank within the search engine's results.
