HTML Sitemaps are not very important for SEO but can provide a list of pages that can be indexed by a search engine crawler. However, this is not the preferred format used for search engines like Google, Yahoo, and Bing. If you are interested in helping your SEO, create an XML sitemaps and submit it to the search engines manually. XML sitemaps contain much more information like Change Frequency, Priority, and the Last Edited date that help search engines know what to show in search engine results and also when to come back to crawl the website again.

An HTML sitemap allows site visitors to easily navigate a website. It is a bulleted outline text version of the site navigation. The anchor text displayed in the outline is linked to the page it references. Site visitors can go to the Sitemap to locate a topic they are unable to find by searching the site or navigating through the site menus.

This Sitemap can also be created in XML format and submitted to search engines so they can crawl the website in a more effective manner. Using the Sitemap, search engines become aware of every page on the site, including any URLs that are not discovered through the normal crawling process used by the engine. Sitemaps are helpful if a site has dynamic content, is new and does not have many links to it, or contains a lot of archived content that is not well-linked.

in simple words sitemap is a list of URL or pages. if we create a sitemap so the search engine spider can navigate our site easily.

there are two types of sitemap:
(!) HTML sitemap: User friendly.
(!!)XML sitemap: search engine friendly.

XML sitemap displays the inner framework and organisation of website’s content to search engine, whereas the HTML sitemap will reflect the way that visitors intuitively work through a site making them a great extension to any site. when search engine crawler visits your site it can find easily through the sitemap, it shows a location of your site in the search engine server and provides instructions to a crawler.
HTML sitemap is user-friendly, a list of pages which users can know how many pages are in the site, but most important is the XML sitemap.

HTML sitemap is a list of links of your website's navigation. It is very useful to users when they don't find their desired page easily through navigation. It makes searching any page on your website easy. Sometimes, it is also used as a landing page to redirect 404 errors as it contains all the pages list.

The HTML Sitemap is more like the ones you see in shopping malls, telling you where the Zara store is, so you can hop over there directly and not have to walk two miles hunting for it. This type of sitemap is meant for us mere mortals, unlike the XML, which only the Google gods can view!

In my point of view sitemap.html is very important role in SEO.

-It is valuable for human visitors, as it allows them to find any page
within your site quickly.
-This is mainly convenient for larger websites where not every page is
easily accessible through a menu.

HTML sitemap is map of your site displayed in a user friendly format. It is designed for humans as they can clearly see it on the website as an extra web page and all the visitors of the website can make use of it for understanding the website.
Having an HTML sitemap makes the website user friendly, as a user can easily navigate the whole website without any problem. For example, if the user is not able to find a specific page on the website then he can make use of the HTML site map and easily access that page. This helps in improving SEO rankings as the every user visiting your website will be satisfied.
