AMP stands for “Accelerated Mobile Pages.” It is an Open Source Framework that was launched as a joint initiative by Google and several other technology and publishing companies. With AMP, it is possible to create simple mobile websites that load almost instantly.

Google has been pushing AMP pages for a while now. IMHO I think if your in the news or general blogging industry it will apply and perhaps give you the competitive advantage above other sites especially if your trying to get into google news.

For non-blog/new type site it's not as relevant IMHO. Majority of the time it's not worth the effort to redesign/implement your site in AMP if say your site is an ecommerce site. It just wouldn't make sense. You would be limited in what AMP in its current format could provide you.

AMP is short for Accelerated Mobile Pages. It’s an open source library that offers an easy way to create Mobile friendly web pages so that pages load very smoothly and instantaneously for users. Although directly it’s not a factor related to SEO, indirectly it plays a vital role in SEO. If your website’s pages are accelerated mobile friendly, then more visitors will visit your site and Search Engines will also like your site as well. Thus, your site will rank in SERPs.

As indicated by a Study, almost 60% of inquiries on the web currently occurs from mobile devices. In 2015, Google authoritatively expressed that their mobile traffic has outperformed work area traffic. Since the rollout of Mobile Algorithm Update – Mobilegeddon in April 2015, the manner in which sites stack in telephones have totally changed. The Mobilegeddon refresh helped the rankings of Web destinations that were mobile responsive around then.

Google AMP: Accelerated mobile pages (AMP) is an open source coding made to fasten the rate at which web pages open and load on mobile devices such as smartphones, laptops, and tablets to name a few.

It was designed to enable publishers to load content on their websites more quickly on mobile devices. This is to get rid of the slow lagging problem that users with old desktops have.

In essence, today's digital market works better with mobile devices that have phased out the archaic desktop computer.

Search engine optimization (SEO) refers to the means through which customer traffic is maximized to a specific site in order to improve online visibility.

It is the process of increasing a qualitative and quantitative flow of purchasing customers to your website.

Google AMP has been proven to have a number of positive effects on SEO. The obvious reason would be because of the “FAST” connotation that AMP has associated to it.
