A <meta> tag provides meta data about your page. There are many different meta tags that can be used to describe your page, such as a description , author , and keywords . Meta tags are typically added to the <head> section of your HTML and are not visible on the page.

A meta tag is a tag (that is, a coding statement) in the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) that describes some aspect of the contents of a Web page. There are many meta tags and html-tags and obviously they don't all influence the search result.

Meta tags are part of the HTML tags that describe your page content to search engines and website visitors. The Meta tags appear only in the page's code and anyone can check them via source code (Ctrl+U).
