Hummingbird is the codename given to a significant algorithm change in Google Search in 2013. Its name was derived from the speed and accuracy of the hummingbird. "Hummingbird" places greater emphasis on natural language queries, considering context and meaning over individual keywords.

We were still living in a time of “great content” and espousing the earning of links and being able to answer questions that people cared about was still the goal. Hummingbird major advantage is that it is able to use natural language processing, search results would be able to retrieve niche results for queries both at the head and long-tail level.
