Pogo sticking is, sadly, not all fun and games. In fact, for marketers it’s one of the most annoying scourges of the search engine marketing world.

Essentially, pogo sticking is when a user searches, clicks on a result, and almost immediately (within five seconds) clicks back to the search result page. The implication of this is obvious — they didn’t find what they were looking for, which indicates it wasn’t a relevant result.

It’s important to note the difference between a bounce rate and pogo sticking because, while they are related, they are not the same. A bounce rate is where a high percentage of visitors visit a single page of a website. It’s not always bad, maybe they found what they were looking for on Page 1, or bookmarked it for later.

Pogo-sticking is characterized as returning and forward from a web search tool results page (SERP) to an individual query output goal website. As such, pogo-sticking is the point at which the searcher taps on a connection on a SERP, sees that it's not what she is searching for, and quickly skips off by hitting the back catch.

When we search a particular website and after getting result from google, open the first web page in the search results and it is not useful, suddenly back to search result by pressing backspace button and chooses another result. And it will satisfy our needs. Some people doing the same, then google second web page is moved up in the result and first web page is moved down in the result.

Pogo sticking in SEO is the practice of going back and forth from a result in the Search Engine Results Page (SERP) to different results. The pogo stick is when any user lands on your website from the search engine but instantly goes back to the search engine’s results and visits another link. It shows that what the user was looking for was not found on your website. Confused? Let’s say, you Google “Cloaking in SEO”. Google shows search results. You click on the first link but you did not find the content you were looking for (i.e. first link did not satisfy your search query). So, you go back to search results again and click on the 2nd link to read about it. This phenomenon is called Pogo Sticking in SEO.
