Sergey and Larry were working on a search engine named "BackRub" by 1996.

In 1997, they decided to rename the search engine as Google according to the word "googol", a mathematical term for number 1 with 100 zeros. By 1998, Google drew the attention of so many people from the Silicon Valley.

Finally, on 4th September 1998, Google was incorporated as a private company.
