Crawling and indexing are two distinct things and this is commonly misunderstood in the SEO industry. Crawling means that Googlebot looks at all the content/code on the page and analyzes it. Indexing means that the page is eligible to show up in Google’s search results. They aren’t mutually inclusive.

The index is the database with which search engines like Google store and retrieve data when a user types a query into the search engine. Before it decides which web pages to show from the index and in what order, search engines apply algorithms to help rank those web pages.

Crawling means that Googlebot looks at all the content/code on the page and analyzes it.

Crawling is the process or reading through your webpage source by search engine spiders. They provide a cache certificate after a successful crawl. Indexing is updating the cached webpages in search engine database. Indexed webpages are now ready for search engine rankings.

Crawling is a process which is done by search engine bots to discover publicly available web pages. If anyone creates a new page on a website and link to it from an existing page and updates a site map file, this will be a signal to search engine bots that they should come and visit the web page to find new content.

While Indexing means when search engines bots crawl the web pages and save a copy of all information on index servers and search engines show the relevant results on search engines when a user performs a search query.
