when you get to know about the penalty, they will tell you reason also.

According to the Manual Actions report

there are the following reasons:

User-generated spam
Spammy free host
Structured data issue
Unnatural links to your site
Unnatural links from your site
Thin content with little or no added value
Cloaking and/or sneaky redirects
Pure spam
Cloaked images
Hidden text and/or keyword stuffing

The best way to check if your website was penalized by an automatic penalty is to login to Google analytics and review your Google organic traffic. If you see a drop in traffic during the dates that Google released an algorithmic change, then most probably you were hit and that's the reason that your traffic dropped.
