There are about 200 ranking factors in Google's algorithm, and domain name is only one of them; thus it has very little to no effect with the site's SEO. However, having a well thought SLD and TLD will definitely help in many ways.

Although Google confirms that alternative gTLDs do not directly affect a website's search rankings, they might influence the audience's perception of a brand — therefore affecting the brand's click-through rate!

Your domain extension has no effect on your search results ranking. The only exception is country-code top level domains

net and . org, .com has become the default domain extension, and therefore the most memorable. This, in essence, is why .com is the best domain extension for SEO. As .com domains are the most powerful, they have become more popular.
